    Småbarnsåren innebär ofta kontakt med vården. Vanliga förkylningssymtom orsakas oftast av virus, men vid vissa tillfällen handlar det om en bakteriell infektion – som till exempel halsfluss – och då behövs antibiotika för att barnet ska bli friskt.

    Antibiotika dödar de bakterier som orsakar infektionen, men påverkar samtidigt även de goda bakterierna som naturligt finns i barnets tarmflora.

    Tarmfloran – en viktig byggsten i barnets hälsa

    Tarmfloran består av miljontals bakterier som hjälper till att stärka immunförsvaret och bryta ner maten vi äter. Forskning visar att en balanserad tarmflora tidigt i livet är avgörande för ett barns långsiktiga hälsa.

    Vid antibiotika kan den känsliga balansen i tarmfloran rubbas. Vissa goda bakterier kan slås ut, och det kan ta tid för tarmfloran att återhämta sig. I vissa fall kan det här vara en bidragande riskfaktor till magbesvär och allergiska symptom.

    Ibland behövs antibiotika – vad ska man göra då?

    Antibiotika ska tas om läkare skriver ut det som behandling – det handlar om att bekämpa bakteriella infektioner som annars kan bli allvarliga.

    Dock finns det saker du som förälder kan göra för att hjälpa barnets mage i samband med, och efter, en antibiotikakur:

    Fyll på med goda bakterier

    Probiotika kan hjälpa till att återställa balansen i tarmen. Det finns produkter som yoghurt och annan dryck med tillsatt probiotika som är enkla att ge i samband med eller efter en antibiotikakur! Det finns också barnanpassad probiotika i koncentrerad form att köpa på apoteket att ge i droppar, tabletter eller kapslar.

    Mata tarmfloran med rätt mat

    Fiberrik mat som frukt, grönsaker och fullkorn fungerar som mat för de goda bakterierna. Det viktigt att erbjuda en varierad och fiberrik kost – det hjälper kroppen att återhämta sig efter antibiotikakurer!

    Ha tålamod

    Det kan ta tid för magen att komma i balans. Magknip, lite lösare avföring eller förändrad aptit är vanligt en tid efter en antibiotikabehandling – men det går oftast över.
