    Can children be overstimulated?

    Små barn har behov av att utforska och stimuleras, men också att söka trygghet, vila och sova. De kan inte riktigt känna av när de behöver varva ner då regleringsförmågan fortfarande är under utveckling, utan behöver hjälp från dig som förälder.

    Hur blir barn överstimulerade?

    Som föräldrar vill vi gärna stimulera våra barn genom att hjälpa dem utvecklas. Barn kan dock lätt överstimuleras när de får för mycket av upplevelser, smaker, ljud och aktiviteter som de inte vet hur de ska hantera.

    Alla barn är olika – en del tar in alla intryck runtomkring och blir trötta relativt fort medan andra kan slappna av i stökigare miljöer. Ibland kan barn verka rastlösa eller aktiva när de egentligen är trötta, vilket då leder till övertrötthet. För att barnet inte ska bli just övertrött eller överstimulerat gäller det att försöka lyssna in barnets signaler och hjälpa barnet att komma till ro när det behövs.

    Att förstå dessa signaler är något som sker över tid, men något som brukar förenkla är att ha återkommande rutiner och struktur i vardagen. Det blir lättare för dig som förälder att planera in både lek och vila, samtidigt som det brukar ge trygghet och förutsägbarhet för många barn. Ha alltid med dig att du som förälder är expert på att förstå just ditt barn och dess behov.

    Barn kan behöva extra återhämtning och trygghet när de är med om förändringar och tar del av många nya intryck. De kan också bli mer oroliga och behöva mer närhet när de lär sig nya förmågor.
