    Seeking help for your child's sleep

    Det är vanligt med sömnsvårigheter. Oftast är det inget du behöver oroa dig för. Det är inte farligt att då och då ha en natt när du får för lite sömn. Men om du sover för lite natt efter natt, blir trött, mår dåligt och fungerar sämre i vardagen, kan du behöva hjälp med att få bättre sömn.

    Var kan jag söka hjälp om mitt barns sömn blir ett problem?

    Många är trötta under den första tiden som föräldrar och kämpar med att komma till rätta med den nya familjens sömnvanor, detta är vanligt och en del av den stora omställningen till att bli förälder. Det är vanligt att små barn har svårt att somna och vaknar upp ofta under natten, trots detta får de flesta små barn tillräckligt med sömn. Som förälder kan det vara en större utmaning att få tillräckligt med sömn under småbarnsåren.

    Finns det två föräldrar i familjen, fundera över samarbetet sinsemellan och hur ni kan dela upp nätterna. Finns det personer i nätverket, som vänner eller släkt är det bra att be om dem om hjälp med praktiska moment som kan underlätta vardagen och att barnet kan få sova borta hos någon i nätverket det är tryggt hos.

    En del barn får i perioder större besvär med sömnen, till exempel att de får svårare att somna, vaknar oftare eller får återkommande mardrömmar. Märker du att ditt barns sömn försämras eller är du som förälder osäker och önskar råd och stöd kring ditt barns sömn är det bra att kontakta BVC. Berätta för dem om situationen. Behövs det mer stöd kan BVC hjälpa till med att ta kontakt med psykolog eller barnläkare.

    En längre tids rubbad sömn hos småbarnsföräldrar kan leda till sömnstörning. Sömnstörning påverkar ens kognitiva förmåga och tålamod negativt och det kan då vara svårt att själv hitta lösningar för att hantera nätterna. Ta hjälp av varandra om ni är två föräldrar, be om råd från BVC och stöd från nätverket. Sänk kraven på dig själv som förälder. Har man en sömnstörning kan man också kontakta allmänläkare på vårdcentralen för hjälp.
