5 games that boost the joy of movement - for the little ones

    Sponsored by Leo's Lekland

The first years of a child's life are filled with small, big steps. Their bodies are discovered bit by bit - by rolling, crawling, standing up, balancing and eventually taking their first tentative steps. For young children, all this is play. And play is movement.

When children are allowed to move freely, in their own way and at their own pace, they not only strengthen their bodies but also their curiosity and self-confidence. The joy of movement that starts early lays the foundation for a life where the body feels safe to use.

Why play and movement early in life are so important

The first year of life is a time of tremendous development, both physically and mentally. Every movement - from reaching for a toy to crawling across the floor - helps build strength, balance and coordination. When movement happens through play, it becomes enjoyable and undemanding. And the more fun it is to move, the more children want to explore the world around them.

5 simple games that invite movement

Young children do not need sophisticated activities to develop. It's often the simple, repetitive and playful things that make the biggest difference - especially when you do them together.

    1. Crawling, climbing and exploring Crawling is an important milestone. Create a simple path at home with pillows, blankets or a tunnel and let your child move at their own pace. You are there, cheering them on and making them feel safe.
    2. Dance and movement to music Put on a favorite song and move together. Swing, spin or hold your child close while you dance. Music helps your child to find rhythm and balance - and often there's a lot of laughter in the process.
    3. Splash and water play Water encourages movement in a natural way. Baby swim, bath tub or bathtub provide the opportunity to kick, splash and use the whole body, while making the child more confident in the water.
    4. Ball games at a leisurely pace A soft ball rolled back and forth can go a long way. Following the ball with your eyes, reaching for it or crawling to retrieve it, trains coordination and movement.
    5. Discover the world outdoors A walk at a child's pace offers lots of impressions. Feel the grass, leaves or sand, watch birds or gently kick a ball. New environments stimulate both the body and curiosity.

    A playful start together

All these little moments contribute to the child's development, but also to your relationship. The joy of movement is not about performance, but about presence, safety and exploring the world together.
