    Prolonged cough at night - how do I help my child?

    När barn får långvarig hosta på natten kan det bero på flera orsaker. Ibland är det vanliga förkylningar som helt enkelt inte vill släppa taget, ibland mer allvarliga tillstånd som allergier eller astma. Vad kan man då som förälder göra för att underlätta långvarig hosta på natten hos barnet, och när är det dags att söka vård?

    Den vanligaste orsaken till hosta på natten är att barnet har en pågående infektion i kroppen i form av en förkylning. Yngre barn får lätt infektioner och förkylningar och det är väldigt vanligt att det resulterar i långvarig hosta. I de flesta fall är det inget att oroa sig över.

    Hosta är kroppens sätt att förhindra att bakterier som inte hör hemma i luftvägarna kommer ner! Det är såklart besvärligt, framför allt för ditt barn, men också för dig som förälder. Det finns dock några knep ni kan prova för att lindra hostan.

    3 tips för att lindra långvarig hosta på natten

    • Prova både att höja upp huvudändan med hjälp av kuddar (det hjälper barnet att hosta)
    • Öppna fönstret för att ventilera rummet där ditt barn sover. Den svala luften brukar ofta bidra till att svullnaden i slemhinnorna minskar
    • Försök se till att ditt barn får i sig tillräckligt med vätska, som kan hjälpa till att lösa upp slem och därmed lindra besvären

    Om hostan håller i sig länge kan det vara ett tecken på någon typ av allergi eller astma, därför är det viktigt att kontakta vården om besvären inte går över om de hållt i sig mer än fyra veckor. Damm, husdjur och mögel kan vara utlösande faktorer, så försök hålla sovrummet så rent som möjligt!
