    Att känna av värk i slutet av graviditeten är helt normalt. Många gravida undrar om det betyder att förlossningen är på gång – men ofta handlar det om exacerbation, även kallade Braxton Hicks.

    Här förklarar vi vad förvärkar är, hur de känns, hur du kan lindra smärtan och när du bör kontakta vården.

    What are exacerbations and why do you get them?

    Precursors are livmoderns träning inför förlossningen.
    Livmodern (uterus) drar ihop sig för att stärka musklerna och förbereda livmoderhalsen (cervix) inför öppningsskedet.

    Syftet med förvärkar:

    • Att stärka livmoderns muskler
    • Att mjuka upp livmoderhalsen inför förlossningen
    • Att stimulera blodflödet till livmodern och moderkakan

    Det är alltså ett tecken på att kroppen fungerar som den ska – även om det kan kännas obekvämt.

    Förvärkar är kroppens sätt att öva inför förlossningen. De är ofarliga och betyder att allt förbereds som det ska.

    How do exacerbations feel?

    Förvärkar påminner om vanliga contractions, men de är ofta lite starkare och oregelbundna.

    De kan kännas som:

    • Ett tryck nedåt i bäckenet
    • Molande värk i korsryggen
    • En känsla som strålar mot ljumskarna
    • En spänning i magen som sprider sig uppifrån och ned

    För förstföderskor kan de vara svåra att skilja från riktiga värkar.
    För omföderskor kan de kännas tydligare eftersom kroppen känner igen processen.

    Snabbt svar:

    Förvärkar är oregelbundna, varierar i styrka och avtar vid vila – till skillnad från förlossningsvärkar som blir starkare, tätare och mer regelbundna.

    How long can you have exacerbations?

    Förvärkar kan komma flera veckor före förlossningen. Vissa känner dem redan i vecka 25–30, andra först mot slutet.

    De kan vara mer märkbara på kvällarna, särskilt efter en aktiv dag eller om du är trött. De betyder inte alltid att förlossningen startar snart – kroppen förbereder sig bara successivt.

    Så kan du lindra förvärkar

    När förvärkarna blir obehagliga finns det flera enkla sätt att lindra dem:

    • Ta ett varmt bad eller dusch – värme får musklerna att slappna av.
    • Use värmekudde, särskilt på korsryggen.
    • Vila, byt ställning och drick mycket vatten.
    • Testa andningstekniker för att minska spänning och oro.
    • Vid behov, ta paracetamol – men rådgör alltid med barnmorska först.

    Snabbt svar:

    Förvärkar kan lindras med värme, vila och vätska. Hjälper inte det – eller om smärtan blir stark och regelbunden – kontakta barnmorskan.

    When should you seek care?

    Sök vård omedelbart om du:

    • Har kraftig smärta som inte går över vid vila
    • Märker blödning eller vattenavgång
    • Upplever reduced fetal movements

    Det kan vara tecken på att förlossningen startat för tidigt eller att något behöver kontrolleras.

    Att skilja förvärkar från förlossningsvärkar

    Förvärkar:

    • Oregelbundna
    • Avtar vid vila eller värme
    • Känns som spänningar eller molvärk

    Förlossningsvärkar:

    • Regelbundna och tilltar i styrka
    • Kommer tätare
    • Fortsätter även vid vila

    Snabbt svar:

    Om värkarna blir regelbundna, starkare och tätare – då handlar det troligen om förlossningsvärkar, inte förvärkar.

    FAQ - Frequently asked questions about exacerbations

    1. Are exacerbations dangerous?
    Nej, de är helt ofarliga och visar att kroppen tränar inför förlossningen.

    2. How often should you have exacerbations?
    De kan komma oregelbundet – ibland flera gånger om dagen, ibland med flera dagars mellanrum.

    3. Can exacerbations affect the child?
    Nej, de påverkar inte barnet negativt.

    4. Hur vet jag att förlossningen startat?
    När värkarna blir regelbundna, starkare och närmar sig varandra – särskilt om vatten eller slempropp avgår.

    5. How long before the birth do the contractions start?
    Det varierar – vissa får dem i flera veckor, andra bara dagarna innan.

    6. Should you go to the hospital in case of exacerbations?
    Bara om värkarna tilltar snabbt, blir regelbundna eller om du är orolig. Rådfråga barnmorska annars
